📝 Abstract
Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is expanding rapidly, yet the growth of charging infrastructure continues to lag behind vehicle deployment, leaving drivers dependent on fixed plug-in stations, connector standards, queueing time, and uneven geographic coverage. This paper presents Volts Wings, an autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) framework that reframes the EV charger itself as a mobile, on-demand service rather than a fixed asset. In the proposed system, an electric vehicle continuously reports its battery state of charge (SoC), location, and charging urgency through an Internet-of-Things (IoT) telemetry link; a cloud-hosted fleet-management layer evaluates available charging drones and dispatches the most suitable unit; the selected drone autonomously plans and flies a collision-free route using GPS, LiDAR, vision, and inertial sensing; and, upon reaching the vehicle, it establishes a precisely aligned hover position and initiates resonant inductive wireless power transfer (WPT) while continuously monitoring coupling quality, thermal state, and battery response. The paper develops a complete system architecture, a subsystem-level functional decomposition, mathematical models for WPT efficiency, mission-level energy economics, trajectory cost, and closed-loop alignment control, and a simulation and validation plan built around MATLAB/Simulink and the Robot Operating System (ROS). A structured literature synthesis spanning twenty-five references is used to position Volts Wings against existing EV-WPT, UAV-assisted charging, autonomous-navigation, and IoT-based monitoring research, and to identify a specific integration gap: no prior work jointly addresses demand detection, fleet dispatch, autonomous three-dimensional navigation, adaptive charging alignment, and UAV energy-budget management as a single closed-loop service. Comparative analysis against wired, static-pad, dynamic-road, and mobile-robot charging approaches indicates that an aerial WPT service can offer the strongest combination of on-demand availability, mobility, and scalability, at the cost of a bounded flightenergy budget that must be actively managed. The work is presented as a simulation-first research platform; hardware validation, regulatory compliance, and large-scale field trials are identified as the necessary next phase of the project.
