📝 Abstract
Recruitment and selection are important human resource management activities that influence employee quality, organizational performance, productivity, and workforce stability. Recruitment refers to the process of attracting a pool of qualified and interested candidates for available positions, while selection involves evaluating applicants against job-related requirements and identifying the most suitable person for a vacancy. The effectiveness of these practices plays a significant role in ensuring that organizations appoint competent employees who can contribute to their goals and longterm development. This study examines the effectiveness of recruitment and selection practices through a descriptive review of human resource management literature. It considers various aspects of the hiring process, including workforce planning, job analysis, preparation of job descriptions, internal and external recruitment sources, candidate screening, structured interviews, employment tests, and final selection decisions. It also highlights the growing role of technology, online job portals, recruitment management systems, and digital platforms in improving the reach, speed, and efficiency of recruitment activities. The study is based on secondary literature collected from relevant books, research papers, academic journals, and other published sources. It does not claim to present primary survey findings from a particular organization. The review focuses on understanding how systematic recruitment and selection procedures can help organizations attract suitable candidates, improve the quality of hiring decisions, reduce unnecessary recruitment costs, and support employee retention. Particular attention is given to fairness, transparency, equal employment opportunities, consistent assessment criteria, and the reduction of personal bias during candidate evaluation. The study suggests that effective hiring requires clear job descriptions, appropriate recruitment channels, reliable assessment methods, timely communication, and proper coordination between human resource managers and departmental heads.
