π Abstract
This study investigates the role of effective project management in enhancing the delivery of government projects in Imo State,Nigeria. Anchored on the Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM) Theory and supported by the Contingency Theory of Project Management and Agile Project Management Theory, the research examines how project scheduling, expense monitoring, supervision of assigned roles, and regular team meetings influence project outcomes. The population comprised 167 staff of the Imo State Ministry of Works involved in planning, supervising, executing, and monitoring government projects, with a census sampling technique employed to include the entire population. Data were analyzed using Spearmanβs rank correlation at a 5% level of significance. Findings indicate that project scheduling positively and significantly influences the ability to meet project deadlines (r = 0.754, p = 0.043), monitoring expenses significantly mitigates potential risks (r = 0.769, p = 0.023), supervision of assigned roles enhances project delivery (r = 0.671, p = 0.036), and regular team meetings contribute significantly to achieving project milestones (r = 0.808, p = 0.009). The study recommends that the Government of Imo State develop realistic project schedules, strengthen financial monitoring systems, assign clear responsibilities to supervisors, and institutionalize regular project review meetings to ensure timely and efficient project delivery. Implementing these measures will enhance accountability, reduce risks, and improve overall project performance.
