The fusion of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) has revolutionized real-time spatial intelligence, enabling smart cities, precision agriculture, transportation, and environmental monitoring. Yet, this integration significantly broadens the attack surface, exposing spatial infrastructures to data theft, manipulation, and service disruption. This paper presents a comprehensive review and analytical framework for cybersecurity in IoT-driven GIS. It systematically classifies threats, evaluates existing mitigation techniques, and introduces a layered defense architecture combining lightweight cryptography, trust management, and spatially aware anomaly detection. A case-based illustration demonstrates how the proposed framework enhances data confidentiality, integrity, and availability within distributed GIS ecosystems. The study concludes with research gaps and a roadmap for building resilient, privacy-preserving geospatial infrastructures.
