📝 Abstract
Plastic and Packaging waste is one of the biggest environmental challenges nowadays due to a lack of proper disposal methods, sub-par recycling practices, and unavailability of citizens willing to participate and reduce, reuse, and recycle their household or industrial waste responsibly. Current waste management systems work manually with very little visibility into the recyclables being handed over for recycling, lack of waste verification, audit mechanisms, and lack of reward system to increase user participation. In this paper, we propose GREEN LOOP, a novel AI-based Circular Economy Framework for Smart Waste management and recycling using Barcode-Based Waste Identification, Image-Based Verification, and Cloud-Based Reporting. The proposed Framework consists of Barcode Scanner, Submit Waste (As Per Quantity), Submit Proof Image, Image Validation using AI-based Algorithms, Save & Allocate Reward Points, save data to Cloud, and Display Report to concerned authorities for transparency. Users will scan the Barcode associated with the waste container or bag they plan to recycle and will be prompted to submit the exact quantity of waste. Users can then take a picture of the recyclable waste and upload it to our system. Using AI Algorithms, the system will verify if the user is uploading recyclable waste as he claims and, in the quantity, as he has submitted for the respective Barcode. On successful validation, users will earn Reward points which they can use as a discount on Bills from other shopping portals. Additionally, manufacturers and government bodies can track the number of containers recycled and uphold EPR using dashboard displays as data will be available on Cloud for central reporting and analysis. In conclusion, this paper shows how AI-based Algorithms and Cloud-Based implementations help increase transparency in recyclables tracking, allow higher user engagement through Rewards, enable environmental Sustainability, and promote Circular Economy Implementation for Smart Waste management.
