International Journal of Scientific Research and Engineering Development

This study examines the effects of plastic packaging on the environment in Kinshasa as well as the economic policies needed to promote a healthy environment. It shows that the increasing use of plastics causes severe urban pollution, visible in streets, markets, drainage channels, and rivers. The research, conducted among 120 respondents, identifies the main causes as the lack of public trash bins, poor waste management, absence of sanctions, and low environmental awareness. The findings also reveal that social behaviors and institutional weaknesses encourage the uncontrolled disposal of plastic waste. The study recommends recycling, the use of biodegradable packaging, strengthening sanitation infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, and the strict enforcement of environmental sanctions.
