The depreciation of Indian rupee has become one of the major macroeconomic problems with immense economic implications. The currency has been gradually depreciating against the major currencies used in the world but mostlyduetothereasons which include trade deficits, inflation gap, fiscal imbalances, capital outflows and global uncertainties. This paper relieson secondary data of resources such as the reserve bank of India, IMF, world bank and government reports toexamineitscauses and effects. Although the low rupee would facilitate exports in the short run, it also leads to high costs of imports, highinflation, and reduced purchasing power. The paper identifies structural reforms, fiscal discipline, export diversification, androbust investment policies as some of the measures that would bring about currency stability and long-termsustainedgrowth..
